Bong Joon-Ho, when that name comes up, we can’t help but to remember the movies that shook us all. Realism and creativity yet still depicting the gray areas of life is now on his way to give us yet another two more films. Amazingly the decorated Oscars-winning director and writer who brought us Parasite, Okja and many more memorable movies has completed one of the two scripts.
Now, producing a script is no easy feat as all angles and understanding his styling, the amount of realism and contexts are also taken into consideration to ensure the plot is as airtight as possible. Parasite showed us that, of how air tight his scripts and plots are even though it symbolizes the social class differences. In which is not something that’s exclusive to the movie but a depiction of the current society when pondered deeply.
“It feels like I’m splitting my brain”
Joon-Ho who appeared in The Director’s Cut podcast with Rian Johnson said “It feels like I’m splitting my brain in half left and right writing these two scripts. But I finished one last week.” He also added that the scripts are written one on Korean and another in English. However, not much detail was revealed about the plot of the films.
He also added that “the Korean film is located in Seoul and has unique elements of horror and action.” He also said that, “It’s difficult to define the genre of my films. The English project is a drama film based on a true event that happened in 2016. Of course, I won’t know until I finish the script, but it has to be set half in the U.K. and half in the U.S.”
Joon-Ho has quite a busy year as he is also developing a Parasite HBO TV series alongside Adam McKay which is expected to use some of the unused ideas from the film’s original script. Currently, there’s no additional information on the release of the new films.
