PDRM issues stern warning on spreading fake news

The need to know the news credibility is getting more important nowadays as there’s just an abundance of news going around the internet. With that, there will be instances where we’ll encounter news that are questionable in credibility and the factuality of it. When that happens, it’s only right to cross check the credibility of the news. A rather simple process since just a simple google on the news and we’re all good to go. 

Fake news needs to also be combated as naturally there will be those who are compelled to believe in it and that would eventually cause an issue among the citizens. The effects of false news can very easily blow out of proportion. Since fake news is geared with ill means would be most appealing towards those who’s viewpoints aligns with, regardless if the credibility has been checked. 

PDRM not tolerating Covid Vaccine fake news

Now, Malaysia isn’t exempted from fake news, as we have our own fair share of false news over the years and it’s still persisting to be an issue. This is quite a dangerous behavior as well, just sharing news without checking the credibility of the news. Since the nature of false news is oftentimes malicious in nature. 

As of now, the PDRM is taking action against the spreading of the Covid vaccine fake news. It’s essentially important for the law enforcers to be alert on fake news since it can usually aggravate situations very quickly. 

Deputy Inspector-General, Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said that an investigation paper would be opened if the police receives a report regarding the Covid vaccine fake news. Additionally, the case will be investigated under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988. 

Nevertheless, it’s crucial to ensure the news credibility before sharing the news and to avoid confusion as the effects of it often spread very quickly.
